Founding member of Scoliosis Research Society Dr. James Holmblad dies

James Holmblad, MD, a spine surgeon and founding member of Scoliosis Research Society, passed away in February. An obituary appeared for Dr. Holmblad in Spinal Deformity.

 

Dr. Holmblad earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania and completed additional orthopedic training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He served a brief stint as a flight surgeon with the U.S. Army and underwent a pediatric fellowship at the Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y.

 

His clinical practice focused on spinal deformities and he volunteered at outreach clinics in rural upstate New York. In addition to his practice, Dr. Holmblad was a clinical associate professor at Albany (N.Y.) Medical College and owned a local travel agency.

 

Dr. Holmblad was 95 years old at the time of his death.
