Mayo receives $10M for new neurosurgery residency program in Florida
John and Carolyn Sonnentag donated $10 million to Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic, which will establish an endowment fund for a new neurosurgery residency program in Florida. The donation will fund a residency program with seven slots for a seven-year training period.

 

DeGen Medical launches Hyper-C Anterior Cervical Plate System
DeGen Medical launched Hyper-C Anterior Cervical Plate System, which is an anterior intervertebral fixation device designed to help stabilize the cervical spine. The procedure was performed by Daniel Williams, MD, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C.

 

JAAOS names Dr. William Levine editor-in-chief
The Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons named William Levine, MD, the new editor-in-chief. Dr. Levine is chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons as well as chief orthopedic surgeon at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

 

Primary & revision posterior lumbar fusion have similar short-term complications
There wasn't any difference in 30-day postoperative complications or readmissions between the primary and revision procedures, or a significant difference found in operative time between the two groups. The one difference was an increased blood transfusion rate for the revision surgery patients when compared with primary surgery patients.

 

VGI Medical's VerteLP Lateral Lumber Cage System receives FDA approval
VGI Medical received FDA 510(k) clearance to market its VerteLP Lateral Lumber Cage System. The system is intended for use during lateral lumbar fusion and features enhanced bi-cortical plating technology. The VerteLP cage and integrated plating are delivered in the plane of the disc through a minimally invasive direct lateral approach.

 

Mercy Northwest Arkansas establishes spine center
Mercy Northwest Arkansas in Rogers opened its new spine center. Mercy Spine Center will be led by Gannon Randolph, MD, and Chad Jones, MD.

 

Soin Medical Center opens expansion, including spine area
Beavercreek, Ohio-based Soin Medical Center opened its expanded quarters. The $10 million expansion includes 30 private rooms and a therapy space for joint and spine patients.

 

SpineGuard revenue up 43%
SpineGuard reported 43 percent annual revenue growth in 2015, with 6.3 million euros in revenue for 2015. Global fourth quarter revenue was up 45 percent to $1.7 million euros. The United States growth was 64 percent. In the United States, the company sold 4,306 PediGuard units, 58 percent of total sales.
