Growing US spinal implant market
The U.S. spinal implant market is currently valued around $5 billion and is expected to grow for the next 10 years at a compound annual growth rate of 2.4 percent, according to a MarketWatch study. It is expected to reach $6.4 billion by 2024.

 

Statistics on resident salary
Medscape's survey of more than 1,700 residents in 24 specialties revealed that the average resident salary in 2015 is $55,400. Residents hit their peak average salaries in the 7th year post-MD with $66,000.

 

Campbell Clinic opens spine center
Campbell Clinic opened a new spine center in Cordova, Tenn., according to a Memphis Daily News report. Specialists will treat herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal tumors, stenosis and bone spurs, among other complications. The surgeons are performing minimally invasive spine surgery.

 

Smith & Nephew acquires Russian manufacturing companies
Smith & Nephew has acquired the trauma and orthopedics business of Russian-based manufacturing companies DeOst and DC. DeOst has distributed Smith & Nephew's products in Russian since 2009, and this acquisition will allow Smith & Nephew to better serve its Russian customers.

 

Sryker acquires Turkish medical equipment company
Stryker acquired Turkish medical equipment company Muka Metal, which sells hospitals and stretchers, among other patient room furniture. The acquisition will expand Stryker's global presence in key markets with Muka's product portfolio to complement current offerings. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter.

 

Spine Hospital of Louisiana at The NeuroMedical Center among Top 100 Private Companies
The Business Report featured the Spine Hospital of Louisiana as one of the Top 100 Private Companies. The hospital received a perfect five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in April.

 

Dr. Michael A. Gleiber relocates Florida practice to West Palm Beach

UMass Memorial to switch to Epic EHR
UMass Memorial Health Care, based in Worcester, Mass., has announced plans to switch to Epic's EHR platform, according to a Boston Business Journal report. Eric Dickson, MD, said in the report that they decided to move forth with Epic because "hundreds of our caregivers tested the options available to us and they resoundingly selected Epic as the best system." UMass Memorial Health Care will be switching from Soarian.
