Outstanding papers in spine: 3 recipients at NASS

The Spine Journal and North American Spine Society awarded three Outstanding Paper Awards at the NASS annual meeting last week.

Authors of the winning manuscripts received a $10,000 prize and their articles were published in The Spine Journal. The authors also presented their work from the main podium and took questions following the award presentation.

 

The three awards were for outstanding paper in basic science and surgical science. They were awarded to:

 

1. Samantha A. Rodrigues, BE, Ashvin Thambyah, PhD, and Neil D. Broom, PhD, for their paper titled "A Multiscale Investigation of the Annulus-Endplate Anchorage System and its Mechanisms of Failure." This paper received the award for basic science.

 

2. Lindsay A. Tetreault, BSc; Pierre Cote, DC, PhD, Branko Kopjar, MD, PhD, Paul Arnold, MD, and Michael G. Fehlings, MD, PhD, FRCSC, for the paper titled "A Clinical Prediction Model to Assess Surgical Outcome in Patients with Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy: Internal and External Validation Using the Prospective Multicenter AOSpine North American and International Datasets of 743 Patients."

 

3. Murat Pekmezci, MD, Alexander A. Theologis, MD, Robert Dionisio, BS, Robert Mackersie, MD, R. Trigg McClellan, MD, for the paper titled "Cervical Spine Clearance Protocols in Level I, II and III Trauma Centers in California."
