Dr. George Martin performs 200th spine surgery with Renaissance Guidance System

George Martin, MD, a spine surgeon at Foundation Surgical Hospital of El Paso performed his 200th minimally invasive spine surgery using the Mazor Robotics Renaissance Guidance System.

The Renaissance system is designed to promote accuracy and safety for patients during spinal procedures. Surgeons use the technology to pre-plan the optimal procedure in a CT-based three-dimensional simulation of the patient's spine. Then, during surgery, the robotic system guides the surgeon and tools based on the pre-planned location.

 

"The Mazor Robot improves the accuracy of procedures and reduces complication rates in surgeries," said Dr. Martin. "This procedure also offers significant cost savings in terms of pre- and postoperative care costs and minimizes the length of time in the hospital."

 

Dr. Martin is a neurosurgeon with a special interest in complex and minimally invasive procedures. He also performs artificial disc replacements and spinal fusions. He's spent more than six years in El Paso and two years using the Mazor system.

In the second quarter of 2014, Mazor sold two Renaissance robotic systems in the United States and two in Asia — making the number of systems in the United States 39 and worldwide 72. The company plans to expand their direct capital sales team in the future and become more involved in national conferences with studies on their technology and presentations.
