Frank P. Cammisa, Jr., MD, is Chief of the Spinal Surgical Service at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City as well as a Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He is also an Attending Surgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Scoliosis Research Society and Cervical Spine Research Society. He initiated the formation of the Spine Care Institute and the Integrated Spine Research Program at HSS and serves on the medical staff of the New York Giants and National Hockey League Players Association.
Dr. Cammisa focuses on the surgical treatment of spinal disorders. His clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, athletic spinal injuries, motion preserving procedures and spinal deformity. He is actively involved in research and has received grants from a number of agencies, including the National Institutes of Health. During his career he has received numerous awards, such as NASS Outstanding Paper Award for Surgical Science. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques and as a reviewer for Spine.

The Spine Care Institute at HSS was formed to foster several positive collaborations between the many different clinical disciplines involved in spine care. Similarly, our research program is similarly designed at maximizing the collaboration between the clinicians and our research staff."
Dr. Cammisa earned his medical degree at the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University in New York City and completed his orthopaedic residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He has completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
