Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Vincent Arlet of Penn Medicine

Vincent Arlet, MD, is chief of orthopedic spine surgery at Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine and a professor of orthopedic surgery at the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Prior to joining Penn Medicine in 2012, Dr. Arlet served as the Warren G. Stamp Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and a professor of neurosurgery at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where he also served as head of the Division of Scoliosis and Spine Surgery. He is a member of the North American Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society.

Dr. Arlet focuses on adult and pediatric spinal deformity surgery, including scoliosis, kyphosis, congenital malformation, minimally invasive spinal surgery and degenerative lumbar and cervical disc disease. His research interests include spinal deformities and evaluation of patient outcomes, basic science of vertebral end plates and discs in cases of scoliosis as well as the biomechanics of spinal fixation. He has written more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and he has served as editor of the European Spine Journal.

 

Dr. Arlet earned his medical degree at University René Descartes in Paris, France. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at various hospitals in Paris. He has also completed an orthopedic fellowship at Montreal General Hospital in Quebec, in addition to pediatric and adult orthopedic surgery fellowships in Paris.
