Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Adam Kanter of UPMC

Adam S. Kanter, MD, is the director of the minimally invasive spine program and spine fellowship program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has a special interest in minimally invasive spine surgery, lateral access procedures, artificial disc technology, complex spinal surgery, spine tumors and spinal cord regeneration.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Kanter travels to teach lateral access spine surgical techniques to surgeons across the world. He also spends time on research and has published articles in several professional journals, including the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine and Spine.

 

He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Society of Lateral Access Surgeons, Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeons and North American Spine Society.

 

Dr. Kanter earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont and completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Virginia. His additional training includes spine surgery fellowships at the University of California, San Francisco and Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand.
