A new study published The Journal of Knee Surgery analyzed ConforMIS' iTotal CR Knee Replacement System in restoring coronal plane mechanical axis alignment.
Gary Levengood, MD, of Lawrenceville, Ga.-based Sports Medicine South, headed the study independently. He analyzed 63 patients who received the ConforMIS iTotal CR implant system and ConforMIS iJig patient-specific instrumentation.
Here are four observations:
1. Eighty-four percent of the patients achieved perfect neutral coronal mechanical alignment of 0 degrees.
2. The other 16 percent of patients experienced within +/-2 degrees of neutral.
3. Dr. Levengood recorded an average preoperative deformity of 5.57 degrees among the patients and a postoperative average of 0.18 degrees.
4. No patients experienced postoperative extension deficits, while 40 had preoperative extension deficits.
