The first spine surgery using Aurora Spine's ZIP 51 Minimally Invasive Interspinous Implant was completed in the United States and Germany.
Here are six things to know about the device:
1. The ZIP 51 system is designed for a rigid stabilization with bone graft at the L5-S1 level as a distinctive sacral fusion option.
2. The technology is part of the Aurora Spine Screwless Procedure line.
3. The first procedure in the United States was performed at the NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark., by Rebecca Barrett-Tuck, MD.
4. The first procedure in Germany was performed at Protestant Hospital by Dr. Christian Reparon.
5. The technology includes the ZIP ONE-STEP Locking Mechanism and various sizes to fit with different patient anatomy. The procedure doesn't require a set screw.
6. The technology is now offered internationally.
