7 key robotics developments in Q2

From Globus Medical's new imaging system debut to Accelus' new leadership, here are seven key spine and robotics headlines to know from the second quarter of 2022:

1. Think Surgical is partnering with Concordia University in Montreal to develop artificial intelligence algorithms for robotic surgery.

2. Spinal device company Accelus appointed Kevin Foley, MD, as its first chief robotics officer.

3. David Dvorak invested $5 million in Think Surgical, a medtech company behind the TSolution One total knee replacement surgical robot.

4. The first spine surgeries with Globus Medical's Excelsius3D three-in-one imaging have been completed with the ExcelsiusGPS robot.

5. The spine surgical robot market, estimated to be worth $331.2 million in 2022, is projected to reach $988.8 million by 2028, according to market research.

6. Irvine, Calif.-based Hoag Orthopedic Institute added a second joint replacement robot to its technology lineup.

7. Medtronic saw record sales for its spine robots in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2022 even as the market is loaded with competition, according to a May 26 earnings call.
