From leadership changes to partnerships, here’s what New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery has done in 2025.

1. Hospital for Special Surgery and University of Miami (Fla.) Health System are partnering for orthopedic care at UHealth SoLé Mia.
2. Hospital for Special Surgery named Matthew Drake, MD, PhD, chief of endocrinology and director of the metabolic bone service.
3. Hospital for Special Surgery marked five years of operations in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Jan. 27. HSS Florida has seen about 40,000 patients since 2020, and it doubled its number of physicians from seven to 14. The orthopedic group’s 60,000-square-foot facility also doubled the number of its operating rooms from two to four, and exam room capacity grew.
4. Mark Bowen, MD, was named Hospital for Special Surgery’s inaugural medical advisor, strategy and business development. Dr. Bowen, a sports medicine surgeon, will focus on developing new programs and clinical platforms. He’ll also seek strategic opportunities to support HSS.
5. Hospital for Special Surgery named Riley Williams, MD, chief of the Sports Medicine Institute, effective March 1.
6. Hospital for Special Surgery opened two locations in Paramus and Mahwah, N.J.
7. Sheeraz Qureshi, MD, was named chief medical officer at Hospital for Special Surgery Florida, and David Backstein, MD, will be medical director of the upcoming HSS at NCH Health System.
8. Hospital for Special Surgery honored surgeon-in-chief emeritus Todd Albert, MD; physiatrist-in-chief Joel Press, MD, and chair emeritus Kendrick Wilson, III.
9. Hospital for Special Surgery has officially opened the doors at its new HSS at NCH facility in Naples, Fla.
10. Hospital for Special Surgery Sports Medicine Institute West Side has completedan $8 million renovation project. The facility is located inside a fully operational residential building and sees 95,000 patients every year.
11. Hospital for Special Surgery will use Abridge, an artificial intelligence company for orthopedic documentation.

15. Hospital for Special Surgery, the nation’s top-ranked orthopedic hospital, is partnering with global growth investor General Atlantic to launch a new, independently operated national platform of ASCs focused on orthopedic and spine care.

17. Orthopedic surgeons at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York performed the first Patella Lift procedures on the East Coast.
