The Nebraska Association of Physician's Assistants has honored Brent Hood, DO, with its "Physician of the Year" award, NBC affiliate KSNB reported April 19.

The award honors physicians who serve as mentors for physician assistant students, employ physician assistants and support the profession.

"As a former [physician assistant] himself, Dr. Hood has insight into our work, and he trusts that we can do a great job supporting patients," Jen Fehringer, PA-C, of Hastings (Neb.) Orthopaedics, told the publication.

Dr. Hood, a sports medicine and joint replacement specialist, worked as an orthopedic surgery physician assistant and emergency department physician assistant in Norfolk (Neb.) before receiving his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree in 2010 from Des Moines (Iowa) University.

NAPA comprises elected board members who work on local and national issues relating to the physician assistant profession.
