4 spine, orthopedic practice and surgical facility closures

Orthopedic

Since the beginning of the year, Becker's has reported on one orthopedic practice and two spine hospital closures, with another orthopedic hospital that could soon close to make way for a new facility:

1. Las Cruces (N.M.) Orthopaedic Associates, a four-physician practice, closed permanently May 11, citing "unforeseen circumstances" tied to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2. Overland Park, Kan.-based Pinnacle Regional Hospital, which specialized in spinal fusion, closed in February. The hospital filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February, but the added financial difficulties inflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic forced it to shutter permanently.

3. Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville, Mo., which also specialized in spine surgery as part of Hollywood, Fla.-based Pinnacle Healthcare System, closed in January.

4. Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care is closing its orthopedic hospital in Lansing, Mich., and plans to sell the property. The move will make way for a 262-bed replacement hospital that will open in South Lansing in late 2021.
