American Academy of Pediatrics honors Dr. William Oppenheim 5 notes

Director of Los Angeles-based Orthopaedic Institute for Children's Cerebral Palsy Program William Oppenheim, MD, received the 2018 American Academy of Pediatrics Distinguished Service Award for orthopedics.

Here are five things to know:

1. At UC Los Angeles Hospital, Dr. Oppenheim serves as the orthopedic center's director for cerebral palsy as well as emeritus chief of pediatric orthopedics.

2. With expertise in cerebral palsy, Dr. Oppenheim also specializes in spina bifida, spinal deformity and osteogenesis imperfecta.

3. Dr. Oppenheim has conducted various research on the latest assessments and treatments for people with cerebral palsy. He has published more than 65 peer-reviewed articles, authored 21 textbook chapters and presented at nearly 300 regional or national meetings.

4. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual within pediatric orthopedics who has contributed to the American Academy of Pediatrics' mission through patient care, research and teaching.

5. Dr. Oppenheim is a former recipient of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy's Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a past president of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine as well as Western Orthopaedic Association's Los Angeles chapter.
