Dr. Patrick Kelly is Andalusia's newest orthopedic surgeon — 5 things to know

Patrick Kelly, DO, opened up his new practice this week in Andalusia, Ala., according to The Andalusia Star-News.

Here are five things to know.

 

1. Dr. Kelly's decision to become an orthopedic surgeon came from his father, who had an unsuccessful hip replacement in the early 1970s that led to seven more surgeries. "I wanted to make that better for people," said Dr. Kelly.

 

2. As a medical student, he was invited to watch a back surgery that involved the surgeon shaving the iliac crest, grinding it up and then using it in reconstructive surgery.

 

3. He is passionate about technology and how the constantly changing orthopedic procedures make the field more exciting.

 

4. Dr. Kelly attended Ohio University for his undergrad, and earned his Doctor of Osteopathy from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo., He then completed an internship at Tri-City Hospital in Dallas and his residency in Kansas City, Mo.

 

5. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics.
