5 key points on new AAOS disclosure protocol

Orthopedic

The AAOS Board of Directors, along with the recommendation of the Annual Meeting Committee and the Committee on Outside Interests, have implemented new disclosure protocols for presenters at AAOS CME events to disclose if they have any connections with industries associated with their work.

According to AAOS Now, the new protocol will require:

1. The presenter will display a visual notification of whether they do, or do not, have something to disclose. They also will provide a referral to the AAOS website for more details.

2. The visual will be projected for three seconds.

3. AAOS staff determines which visual will be projected and provide it to the speaker several weeks before the meeting or CME event.

4. "If a speaker fails to project the disclosure visual, the moderator should ask the speaker to provide verbal disclosure."

5. Failure by speakers to follow the disclosure protocol will result in sanctions.
