Mark Gittins, MD, performed Ohio’s first robotics-assisted bicruciate-retaining total knee replacement at the New Albany (Ohio) Surgery Center.
Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Gittins used Smith & Nephew’s Navio Surgical System to complete the total knee arthroscopic surgery.
2. The Navio surgical system helps physicians implant the Journey II XR, a bicruciate-retaining total knee system. Journey II XR is one of the only total knee systems designed for anterior cruciate ligament retention.
3. The Journey II XR implant features an anatomic design to enable a patient’s knee to regain full range of motion and its internals shape.
4. Smith & Nephew designed the Navio system to help physicians with implant alignment, ligament balancing and bone preparation.
5. The Navio system does not require preoperative imaging, allowing patients to receive the benefits of robotic surgery without the added costs or radiation.
