The Steadman Clinic formalizes deal involving 14-surgeon team, planned ASC — 6 details

    Angie Stewart -

Vail, Colo.-based The Steadman Clinic and Aspen (Colo.) Valley Hospital formalized a partnership months in the making.

    What you should know:

    1. A Sept. 8 vote by the AVH board of directors cleared the new partnership to take effect Dec. 1.

    2. Through the venture, The Steadman Clinic and AVH will combine their orthopedic programs and develop an orthopedic ASC to "create efficiencies and economies of scale, passing these benefits on to the Aspen community."

    3. A team of 14 orthopedic surgeons including established providers from AVH and The Steadman Clinic, as well as physicians recruited to the area, will begin practicing in Aspen. The physician roster will continue growing based on local demand for services.

    4. Additionally, as a partner to Steadman Philippon Research Institute, AVH will become involved in the training of future orthopedic surgeons and the development of technologies advancing musculoskeletal health.

    5. The planned ASC will involve collaboration by Vail Health and Orthopedic Care Partners, which established a partnership with The Steadman Clinic in November 2019. The Steadman Clinic provides management expertise and access to investor capital to OCP.

    6. The Basalt, Colo.-based ASC will feature four operating rooms, nine preoperative rooms and 14 total recovery rooms, with space for future expansion. It will be complemented by clinic space, an SPRI research hub and rehabilitation services in the Willits Town Center.

"We have long been interested in expanding to Aspen," said The Steadman Clinic's Marc Philippon, MD. "In fact, Dr. Steadman and I discussed it years ago. At long last, this partnership makes it possible for us to bring our patient-centered care and evidence-based medicine to the people of the Roaring Fork Valley."
