Iowa hospital offers short-stay knee replacement

Practice Management

Spencer (Iowa) Hospital's short stay knee replacement program offers shortened hospital stays for chronic knee pain sufferers, reports Spencer Signal.

Orthopedic surgeons Andrew Pick, DO, and Jason Hough, DO, of Spencer-based Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint & Sports Surgeons and Alexander Pruitt, MD, of Orthopaedics, PC, also in Spencer, perform short-stay knee replacement procedures at Spencer Hospital.

Spencer Hospital records an average of 25 daily inpatients and an average of 111 daily outpatient registrations, according to its website.

"Currently under our short-stay program, the patient spends the night post-surgery in the hospital, yet on an outpatient basis, rather than under inpatient status," said Dr. Pick. "The care provided for a short-stay knee replacement patient is exactly the same as for all knee replacement patients, except all of the steps happen much quicker."
