3 Rothman Orthopaedics physicians take on leadership roles with medical societies

Three physicians from a Philadelphia-based private orthopedic practice, Rothman Orthopaedics, have accepted leadership roles in state medical societies.

Frank Alberta, MD, Asif M. Ilyas, MD, and Marc J. Levine, MD, were elected or appointed to new roles within state-based organizations.

Dr. Alberta, a member of the Rothman Orthopaedics Shoulder & Elbow service, was appointed president of the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society.

He has 14 years of experience in treating the shoulder, elbow and knee joints and is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He has published several journal articles on shoulder and elbow biomechanics, throwing injuries in athletes strength training and advances in surgical techniques.

Dr. Ilyas, Rothman Orthopaedics Hand & Wrist surgeon, was appointed president of the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society.

He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a certificate of added qualification in hand surgery and is the consulting hand surgeon for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Philadelphia Eagles. Dr. Ilyas is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Association, American Society for Surgery of the Hand and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons among others.

Dr. Levine, a spine surgeon, was appointed president of the Medical Society of New Jersey.

He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, founding governing board member of the New Jersey Surgery Center and is on the board of trustees and treasurer for the Eastern Orthopaedic Association. In 2017 he was selected to be one of six physicians to become a fellow of the inaugural class of the New Jersey Health Executive Leadership Academy.
