Practice Management

Vancouver-based Southwest Washington Regional Surgery Center notified 2,393 patients of a security incident involving an email phishing attack.

Here are five things to know:

1. Spine, orthopedic and pain management patients, among others, may have been victims of the security breach. The surgery center said one employee's email was hit with the phishing attack.

2. Patients' names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and/or medical information may have been compromised with the attack.

3. Southwest Washington Regional Surgery Center also notified a few patients that their credit card numbers were affected by the phishing attack.

4. There has been no evidence of the information being misused.

5. This is not the first phishing attack that has happened to tenants in the building Southwest Washington Regional Surgery Center occupies, according to The Columbian. Vancouver-based Rebound Orthopedics and Neurosurgery also reported a security breach. Both Southwest Washington Regional Surgery Center and Rebound Orthopedics operate out of PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center's Physician's Pavilion.
