NorthShore University HealthSystem to focus on spine & specialty care in $300M+ hospital transformation — 3 insights

Practice Management

Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem will reposition Skokie (Ill.) Hospital as a center for orthopedic and spinal care, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Here are three things to know:

1. The healthcare system will transition Evanston Hospital's focus to complex neurosurgery, cancer and heart issues. Glenview, Ill.-based Glenbrook Hospital will serve as a center for geriatric patients.

2. NorthShore expects to spend between $300 million to $350 million on the hospital transformations. The system also plans to spend between $50 million to $60 million on 50 new immediate care centers in the greater Chicago area.

3. The system's four hospitals will retain their emergency departments. Highland Park (Ill.) Hospital will remain a full-service medical center, and labor and delivery services will not change at Evanston Hospital or Highland Park Hospital.

"For patients, this means a greater depth of expertise around services at several of our campuses," NorthShore President J.P. Gallagher told the Chicago Tribune. "This is part of evolving and adapting."
