Practice Management

Medscape surveyed 11,549 U.S. physicians on where they would choose to receive treatment for 10 conditions or procedures.

For non-cancer conditions, physicians felt the most important factor in choosing a hospital was its expertise, including physician credentials and published outcomes, followed by the hospital's reputation among colleagues.

Here are the top eight hospitals physicians would go to if they needed hip replacement surgery, according to Medscape's 2018 Physician's Choice survey:

1. Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City

2. Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus in Rochester, Minn.

3. Cleveland Clinic

4. Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston

5. Rush University Medical Center in Chicago

6. New England Baptist Hospital in Boston

7. Tied: The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore

7. Ronald Reagan UC Los Angeles Medical Center
