Rothman Orthopaedic Institute joins Aetna's New York network: 4 key points

Practice Management

Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedic Institute joined Aetna's network in New York to provide in-network care for members of Aetna's commercial and Medicare Advantage plans.

Here are four things to know:

1. Rothman Orthopaedic Institute comprises 30 locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and most recently New York. The practice aims to open two locations in New York — one in Tarrytown and the other in Manhattan — in the coming weeks.

2. Anthony Romeo, MD, is leading the New York branch and aims to drive growth in the future. Rothman also has a partnership with New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health for future expansion.

3. Rothman comprises orthopedic practices as well as urgent care clinics, a surgical hospital and ambulatory surgery centers dedicated to orthopedic care. Specialists focus on sports medicine, spine, total joint replacement, extremities care, orthopedic oncology and physical medicine and rehabilitation.

4. Known for staying on the cutting-edge of spine and orthopedic care, Rothman is engaged in value-based initiatives and could work with Aetna on bundled payments for the New York market in the future.

"We admire Rothman's legacy as a provider of world-class orthopedic and neurosurgical services and are excited to welcome them into our network of providers in New York," said John Tesoro, market head of Aetna's New York network. "Aetna shares their commitment to high-quality, cost-effective healthcare. We hope to expand the successful bundled payment program we have with Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in Philadelphia to our communities in New York as part of our continued focus on value-based care."
