IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital receives Blue Cross Blue Shield spine surgery distinction: 3 facts

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana selected Muncie, Ind.-based IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery, the Muncie Journal reported.

Here are three details to know:

1. Blue Distinction Centers are healthcare facilities shown to deliver safe and effective specialty care determined by measures set by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies, and input from the medical community.

2. Blue Distinction Centers for Spine Surgery have expertise in spine surgery and have a history of performing surgeries with fewer complications and readmissions than hospitals without the recognition.

3. IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital also has a Blue Distinction Center+ Designation for Knee and Hip Replacement Surgeries, which is given to hospitals that are on average 20 percent more cost-efficient than other hospitals for episodes of care.
