Saint Luke's Health System's Kansas City Orthopedic Institute will be opening in-house urgent care next month, according to a Kansas City Business Journal report.
Here are five things to know:
1. The urgent care center is designed for orthopedic and sports injuries in patients who don't need a trip to the emergency room but do need specialized orthopedic treatment that regular urgent care isn't able to give.
2. The hospital's orthopedic physicians and staff will be available through the urgent care center.
3. Cost for care at the urgent care center will be cheaper than in the ER and patients will still have access to the hospital's X-ray, casting and splintering.
4. The facility may hire additional personnel in the next six to 12 months depending on demand for their services.
5. Charles Rhodes, MD, CEO of Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute, said the urgent care facility complements other micro-hospitals and urgent care centers in the market and can expedite orthopedic care at a lower cost.
