The University of Chicago Medicine and Harvey, Ill.-based Ingalls Health System have finalized their merger.
Here are seven things to know:
1. Ingalls will now fall within UChicago Medicine's brand, which includes the University of Chicago Medical Center, Biological Sciences Division and Pritzker School of Medicine.
2. Both health systems will keep their names and operating licensure.
3. The University of Chicago Medical Center will now serve as Ingalls' corporate partner.
4. The combined enterprise encompasses Ingalls' five outpatient centers, UChicago Medicine's Hyde Park medical campus as well as planned ambulatory facilities in Orland Park and Chicago's South Loop.
5. Kurt E. Johnson will continue to serve as Ingalls' president and chief executive.
6. Ingalls will have a local board of directors as well as representation on the UCMC board.
7. The merger did not include any exchange of money.
"UChicago Medicine has vast expertise in highly complex care and research studies such as clinical trials, and Ingalls has expertise in quality care in the community hospital setting," said Kenneth S. Polonsky, MD, executive vice president of medical affairs and dean of the University of Chicago's Biological Sciences Division.
