Arkansas health system acquires 7-physician orthopedic group — 5 details

Conway (Ark.) Regional Health System acquired Conway Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center, taking over the group's management and operations effective Jan. 2.

What you should know:

1. COSMC physicians and staff will become Conway Regional Health System employees. The physicians are:

  • Scott Smith, MD
  • Tod Ghormley, MD
  • Jay Howell, MD
  • Grant Bennett, MD
  • James Head, MD
  • Rick McCarron, MD
  • Glenn McClendon, DPM

2. Many hospitals and orthopedic groups have sought to partner with COSMC in recent years, according to Dr. Smith. COSMC chose to partner with Conway Regional after "evaluating the landscape," he said.

3. Dr. Smith expects the partnership to strengthen COSMC, expand its reach and improve patient experience.

4. COSMC will not eliminate any of its existing services, which include hand, upper extremity, foot, ankle, hip, knee and shoulder care. It will retain its name and location.

5. The partnership builds on the organizations' long-standing relationship, according to Conway Regional Health System President and CEO Matt Troup.
