Billing & Coding

MedPAC released its annual report on Medicare Payment Policy, which includes recommendations for ambulatory surgery centers, according to a Health Finance report.

The report recommended Congress eliminate ASC payment updates for 2014 and require ASCs to submit cost data. MedPAC also asked that a value-based purchasing program for ASCs be developed by 2016, according to the report.

At the same time, the report recommended Congress increase inpatient and outpatient hospital prospective payment systems by 1 percent. MedPAC also recommended sustainable growth rate repeal, replaced with a "10-year path of statutory fee-schedule updates."
