Orthopedic & Spine Industry Leader to Know: Dr. James St. Louis of Laser Spine Institute

James St. Louis, MD, founder and chief physician at Laser Spine Institute in Tampa, Fla., is committed to providing his patients with the best treatment possible for spinal injuries and disorders. He has consistently been on the cutting edge of minimally invasive spine surgery techniques and has trained many young physicians on innovative surgical techniques throughout his career.

Dr. St. Louis's accomplishments have been recognized several times by his peers. He was selected to receive the 2005 and 2008 Physician of the Year award by the American Association of Physician Specialists. He has also received the meritorious service award from the United States Army. In addition to his practice, Dr. St. Louis serves on the Board of Osteopathic Medicine, appointed by the Florida Governor.

Before founding Laser Spine Institute, which now has locations in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Philadelphia, Dr. St. Louis served as medical director of HealthSouth in Pensacola, Fla., and chief of surgery at Woodlawn Medical Center in Cullman, Ala. He was also the director of cardiac rehabilitation and researcher as well as the coordinator of the national lopressor intervention trial at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Dr. St. Louis earned a master of science degree from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. He earned his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Mo., and served in the Medical Service Corps of the United States Army. He completed his orthopedic residencies at the U.S. Army in Fort Lewis, Wash., and Kennedy Medical Center in Cherry Hill, N.J.
