San Diego-based digital health company Reflexion Health received FDA clearance to expand its Virtual Exercise Rehabilitation Assistant for use with trunk and upper extremities.

Four takeaways:

1. Previously, VERA was only approved for lower extremity use. The upper extremity module is scheduled for release later this year.

2. Virtual Health has launched its trunk module, which is designed to help patients recover after spine surgery and provide lower back pain relief.

3. VERA is a digital therapy platform that combines a variety of prescription rehabilitation exercises including a telemedicine system to deliver a home-based rehabilitation experience, an animated avatar coach and a 3D imaging system for measuring movement.

4. VERA was created to educate, demonstrate, measure, analyze and record patients' movements at home, without the need to wear any sensors or monitoring devices.
