Gramercy Extremity Orthopedics earns variable angle locking technology patent: 3 insights

Spinal Tech

Gramercy Extremity Orthopedics received a U.S. patent for its variable angle locking technology.

Here are three things to know:

1. The technology includes inserts in the plate for surgeons to fix the screw at various angles and orientations.

2. An insert can be attached to the end of a drill guide, which also enables surgeons to orient and attach the insert to the plate. Once in place, the drill hole is aligned with the screw hole in the insert.

3. The insert contains machined threads, which are designed to enable a standard locking screw to be inserted at the desired orientation. The screw can also be removed before reorienting the insert and replacing the screw.
