People magazine and Great Place to Work included Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Stryker in their 2017 "Companies that Care" list.

Here are six highlights:

1. The list features U.S.-based companies with 1,000 or more employees that have established successful business practices while also prioritizing respect, compassion and concern for their employees, communities and environment.

2. Great Place to Work interviewed more than 368,000 randomly selected employees from a range of companies about their work experiences. Companies' benefits, financial donations and volunteerism also factored into the list's inclusion criteria.

3. Stryker came in 45th of the 50 companies on the list.

4. Stryker thanked its employees "for their determination to make healthcare better and, with that same drive, help one another and our communities."

5. Demonstrating it volunteerism, Stryker partners with Operation Smile, an international medical charity funding surgeries for children who have facial deformities. The company offers its employees the opportunity to go on mission trips as non-medical volunteers.
