Mazor Robotics shows PROlif Lateral solution at Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Global Forum: 5 observations

Caesarea, Israel-based Mazor Robotics presented data for its PROlif Lateral solution and demonstrated a procedure on a cadaver at the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Global Forum '15 in Las Vegas.

Here are five observations:

 

1. Using Mazor Robotics technology, fluoroscopy time per screw was reduced by about one-third in a study analyzing fluoro-guided versus robotic-guided single-position lateral interbody fusion and posterior fixation.

 

2. Neurosurgeon J. Alex Thomas, MD, said there were no revisions in the robotic-guided cases compared to three revisions in the fluoro-guided group.

 

3. The single position solution is for circumferential spinal fusion and is used with the Renaissance system. It guides the placement of pedicle screws while patients are in lateral decubitus positions.

 

4. Kornelis Poelstra, MD, PhD, SMISS co-chairman, led the cadaver workshop showing the PROlif in action.

 

5. The solution is designed to reduce operating time as surgeons don't need to turn a patient into prone position after a lateral procedure.

 

"The Renaissance Guidance System easily integrates into my existing operating workflow and when using PROlif, it saves 45 to 60 minutes of anesthesia and surgical time per case," said Dr. Poelstra.
