Institute of Applied Neurosciences licenses spine surgery implant exclusively to Amendia: 5 things to know

Spinal Tech

The Institute for Applied Neurosciences, a nonprofit within the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, licensed a minimally invasive spine surgery implant to Amendia, a spine surgery medical device provider in Marietta, Ga.

Here are five things to know:

1. Amendia now has the exclusive right to manufacture and distribute Sinu-Lok, a replacement for standard rod implants used in thoracolumbar spine surgery.

2. Sinu-Lok was established in 2013 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

3. The implant is a sinusoidal titanium rod.

4. Sinu-Lok offers an extended range of axial connection between the screw-rod interface when the construct is tightened down, creating divergence of the screw towers.

5. The implant addresses the issue surgeons face using the standard rod implant, which forces the extended screw towers to bump together when tightening the construct.

"The technology developed and the model set up by the IAN team at MUSC is a great fit with our mission to exceed surgeon and patient expectations by creating balanced solutions with disruptive technologies for medical devices paired with biologics and instrumentation," said Jeff Smith, Amendia CEO.
