K2M received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration to market the CAPRI Corpectomy Cage System.
Here are five quick facts about the system:
- It's an expandable vertebral body replacement device designed to provide structural stability following a corpectomy or vertebrectomy.
- The cage system is intended for use in the thoracolumbar spine to replace collapsed, damaged or unstable vertebral bodies after trauma or tumors.
- The CAPRI Corpectomy Cage System can provide anterior spinal column support even when there is not fusion for a prolonged period.
- The cages are manufactured from titanium and cobalt chrome.
- It can be implanted thorugh the anterior, lateral or posterior approach.
"The continuous variability of endplate angulation and height expansion is designed to reduce the time it takes to place corpectomy cages," said Michael Finn, MD, a neurosurgeon and assistant professor in the department of neurosurgery at the University of Colorado.
