Stryker Interventional Spine Launches iVAS Inflatable Vertebral Augmentation System

Stryker's Interventional Spine business unit has launched the iVAS inflatable vertebral augmentation system, a minimally invasive device cleared for use in treating vertebral compression fractures, according to a Stryker news release.

iVAS is designed to be a single source for VCFsolutions and includes supplies and equipment needed to perform both vertebral augmentation, which is often referred to as balloon kyphoplasty, and vertebroplasty. iVAS includes five key features to help promote enhanced procedure efficiency and outcomes:

•    A stiff distal balloon catheter to provide rigidity for smooth insertion;
•    A flexible proximal catheter for easy maneuverability;
•    Radiopaque markers on the balloon catheter to facilitate accurate visualization and placement of the balloon;
•    A hand drill to cut cleanly through cancellous bone to create a channel for balloon placement; and
•    Graduation markings on the access cannula assist in measuring needle depth.

"Stryker offers solutions for both vertebral augmentation and vertebroplasty procedures, giving physicians the flexibility to customize their treatment approach based on the type of compression fracture and patient anatomy."
