Kornelis Poelstra, MD, performed 200 spine surgeries using the Mazor X system.

Here are five things to know:

1. Dr. Poelstra is an orthopedic surgeon and founder of The Spine Center of Excellence at Sacred Heart on the Emerald Coast in Miramar Beach, Calif. He is the first surgeon to reach 200 patient procedures performed with the Mazor X Surgical Assistance platform.

2. Dr. Poelstra has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures, lateral interbody cages and reconstructive systems. He has used the Mazor X technology during a variety of procedures, and was the first ever to use it during a lateral spine surgery, enabling posterior instrumentation without repositioning the patient from their side to a prone position.

3. Throughout his minimally invasive procedures, Dr. Poelstra reported 90 percent including the Mazor X technology. "We believe that we are redefining the standard of spinal surgery in our facility," he said.

4. During the first quarter of 2017, Mazor reported 12 Mazor X orders, driving an 83 percent revenue increase over the same period last year. The company received four Mazor X purchase orders in the first half of the second quarter.

5. Medtronic signed on last year to be Mazor's distribution and marketing partner for the Mazor X systems. Mazor CEO Ori Hadomi reported last week the partnership is meeting its milestones and expects Medtronic to extend the contract between the two.
