Dr. Ivan Wong adopts Ossa software to turn CT scans into 3-D models: 4 highlights

Imaging

Ivan Wong, MD, of Dartmouth General Hospital, integrated Conceptualiz's Ossa software into his lab EQII Health Sciences Center, according to CTV News Atlantic.

Here are four takeaways:

1. Ossa software takes a patient's CT scans and turns them into 3-D printed models. Dr. Wong notes the software allows him to remove outsourcing and save costs.

2. Previous 3-D printed models required physicians to send CT scans to the manufacturer. Now with Ossa, physicians can print the models at their practice.

3. The in-house 3-D models have enabled Dr. Wong and other physicians to develop new surgical techniques, and have allowed more patients different surgical options.

4. While Dr. Wong is currently using the models to plan arthroscopic surgery, he hopes the technology will continue to develop to benefit more complex surgeries.
