Biologics

Little Rock, Ark.-based Baptist Health Spine Center physicians are encouraging patients to avoid surgery through the use of stem cell injections, according to Arkansas Matters.

Here are five things to know:

1. Kristin Schumacher is one of the patients Baptist Health recommended stem cell treatment to instead of surgery. Ms. Schumacher underwent two failed neck surgeries; however, after stem cell injections she noted her quality of life improved 30 percent.

2. Derek Buck, MD, an interventional spine specialist, offers stem cells to qualifying patients before choosing the surgical path.

3. Dr. Buck believes nearly 90 percent of all patients with neck or back issues could benefit from stem cell injections and therapies while simultaneously avoiding surgery.

4. Stem cell therapies offered at Baptist Health are minimally invasive.

5. Additionally, Baptist Health offers patients joint ablations, epidurals, nerve root blocks and fracture repairs.
