50 Spine-Focused ASCs to Know

Here are 50 ambulatory surgery centers with a focus on spine procedures.

Advanced Spine Surgery Center in Union, N.J., was founded by Kaixuan Liu, MD, a board-certified pain medicine physician. The practice also includes spine surgeons, neurosurgeons and orthopedic joint replacement physicians. The center has One Medical Passport from Medical Web Technologies.

 

Ambulatory Surgical Center of Somerset in Bridgewater, N.J., includes orthopedics and pain management in addition to spinal procedures. The ASC physicians have combined 40 years of experience in minimally invasive surgery, and the center includes a private 23-hour recovery suite for large procedures. Surgeons perform lumbar interbody fusions, ACDF and other procedures at the center.

 

Archibald Surgery Center in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., opened in June 2012 and includes ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery and pain procedures in addition to spine. The 6,850-square-foot facility includes three operating rooms and is affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Partners. Four physicians take cases to the center, including neurosurgeon Ali Hakim Mesiwala, MD.

 

Baltimore Spine and Orthopedic Center provides minimally invasive orthopedic and spine procedures. Spine procedures at the center include ACDF, cervical disc replacement, spinal cord stimulation implantation and lumbar discectomy. There are four neurosurgeons at the center.

 

BASIC Spine Irvine (Calif.) Surgery Center is focused on providing spine, pain and orthopedic care. The facility is one block from Hoag Hospital and also includes a chiropractor. BASIC Spine was founded by G. Thaiyananthan, MD, and his partner Bryan Oh, MD.

 

Carrillo Surgery Center in Santa Barbara, Calif., was founded in 2005 by Alan Moelleken, MD. There are several procedures performed at the two-OR facility, including minimally invasive posterior spinal fusion, disc replacement and P/TLIF. The center includes 23-hour stay capabilities.

 

Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Munster, Ind., includes orthopedics, otolaryngology and pain procedures in addition to spine surgery. The 10,000-square-foot surgery center has two operating rooms and is affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Center Partners.

 

Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Mokena, Ill., includes spine surgery, pain management and orthopedics among other specialties. The center has the Advanced O-Arm and Stealth Image Guidance System and includes surgical and nonsurgical back pain treatment.

 

The Christ Hospital Spine Surgery Center is a freestanding ASC featuring neurosurgery and pain management. The center is a partnership between Mayfield Clinic, The Christ Hospital and United Surgical Partners International. More than 10,000 procedures have been performed there — including fusions — since opening in 2007.

 

Christiana Spine Center in Newark, Del., includes minimally invasive outpatient spinal procedures. The center is AAAHC-accredited and opened in June 2000 on the Christiana Care Hospital campus. The center has electronic patient medical records and treatment algorithms designed to improve patient outcomes.

 

Citrus Park Surgery Center in Tampa, Fla., is a two-OR center covers spine and orthopedic surgery as well as pain management and plastic surgery. One of this center's surgeons, Robert Nucci, MD, focuses on minimally invasive outpatient lumbar fusions and multi-level outpatient cervical disc replacements.

 

Crane Creek Surgery Center in Melbourne, Fla., is a 14,000-square-foot facility with four operating rooms and two procedure rooms. The Blue Chip Surgical Partners-affiliated center includes orthopedics, otolaryngology, general surgery, pain management and urology in addition to spine procedures. There are eight physicians involved with the center.

 

Comprehensive Spine Center in San Francisco is led by director Fred Naraghi, MD. He has a special interest in minimally invasive cervical and lumbar procedures, and conducts clinical trials on both fusion and non-fusion procedures.

 

DISC Sports and Spine Center,founded by current CEO Robert S. Bray Jr., MD, includes two ASC locations – the Diagnostic & Interventional Surgery Center in Marina del Rey and the DISC Surgery Center at Newport Beach. Surgeons at both centers treat elite athletes and weekend warriors alike with orthopedic and spine procedures, among other minimally invasive services. Dr. Bray has performed more than 10,000 successful surgeries, with 95 percent focused on outpatient procedures.

 

Eastwind Surgical in Westerville, Ohio, was established in 2007. It is a 10,350-square-foot surgical facility located within the Central Ohio Neurological Surgeons medical office building. Meridian Surgical Partners acquired majority interest in the center in 2011. Equipped with one operating room and two procedure rooms, Eastwind Surgical is the only ASC in Ohio to offer the Axis Jackson Surgical Table.

 

Englewood (Colo.) Surgery Center has staff, treatment protocols and services customized for spine care. The ASC is located on the Colorado Comprehensive Spine Institute's main campus, which also includes physical therapy and MRI. Institute physicians perform artificial disc replacements, minimally invasive surgery and fusions.

 

Frontenac (Mo.) Surgery & Spine Care Center includes two operating rooms and three treatment rooms where physicians perform orthopedic, pain management, plastic surgery and podiatry procedures in addition to spine care. The AAAHC-accredited center includes Medical Director D. Raskas, MD, and Administrator Kelly Miller.

 

GNS Surgery Center in Athens, Ga., is an 8,000-square-foot surgery center and completely spine-focused. It has two operating rooms and is affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Center Partners. Five physicians are affiliated with GNS Surgery Center focused on spinal surgery and injections.

 

Honolulu Spine Center involves three orthopedic surgeons and five neurosurgeons. This Symbion-affiliated center includes minimally invasive spine procedures, neurosurgery, interventional orthopedics and pain management. The 7,800-square-foot center opened in 2007.

 

Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery, based in Dallas, was opened in fall 2011. The 9,255-square-foot surgery center includes two operating rooms and one procedure room. It was designed for surgeons to perform minimally invasive spine surgery and includes the O-arm Spine Surgical Imaging system with StealthStation Navigation.

 

Lake Ridge Ambulatory Surgery Center in Woodbridge, Va., is a Blue Chip Surgical Partners-affiliated ambulatory surgery center. It is a joint venture with Sentara Potomac Hospital. The multispecialty facility includes orthopedics and spine in its 9,500-square-foot facility. The ASC has one operating room and one procedure room.

 

Laser Spine Institute is based in Tampa, Fla., and includes ASC locations in Arizona, Philadelphia and Oklahoma City. The surgery centers attract patients from across the country for various procedures, including minimally invasive stabilization, disc replacement, endoscopic surgery and stem cell procedures.

 

Loveland (Colo.) Surgery Center includes orthopedic spine surgery, pain management and otolaryngology procedures. The facility is connected to a convalescence center for overnight stays and is accredited by The Joint commission. National Surgical Care and physicians are joint owners in the center.

 

Microsurgical Spine Center in Puyallup, Wash., was founded by Richard Wohns, MD, JD, MBA, medical director of the center. Physicians perform minimally invasive spine surgery, artificial disc replacement and pain management procedures at the center, which is affiliated with Symbion.

 

Middlesex Surgery Center in Edison, N.J., was founded by the physicians of IGEA Brain & Spine. The ASC physicians perform several procedures, including lateral surgery, X-Stop Spacer and spinal cord stimulation along with pain procedures. The practice includes four physician partners.

 

Millennium Surgical Center in Cherry Hill, N.J., is an advanced outpatient surgery center focusing on spine, pain management, orthopedics and podiatry. The center was opened in 2007 and received Joint Commission accreditation. Spinal procedures include disc nucleoplasty, minimally invasive spine surgery and anterior discectomy with fusion.

 

The Minimally Invasive Spine Center of Paradise Valley in Phoenix is an 8,400-square-foot facility with two operating rooms. The surgery center is affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Partners and includes orthopedic and pain management procedures in addition to spine care.

 

Neurological Institute of Savannah (Ga.) Ambulatory Surgery Center includes 10 surgeons focused on providing a high standard of neurosurgical and spine professional care. The surgery center is AAAHC-accredited and serves as one of the largest neurosurgical groups in the Southeast.

 

NeuroSpine Institute includes an Orlando-based outpatient surgical facility with microsurgical procedures. Robert L. Masson, MD, founded the Institute to focus on spinal injury and sports-related injury to the spine. He has performed more than 11,000 microsurgical procedures and 4,000 minimally invasive lumbar spinal reconstructions and revisions.

 

NeuroSpine and Pain Surgery Center in Ft. Wayne, Ind., is a joint venture between neurosurgeons and the physical medicine physicians of the NeuroSpine and Pain Center and Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. Opened in January 2007, the center has three operating rooms and one procedure room as well as over night stay capabilities.

 

Northern Wyoming Surgical Center in Cody provides outpatient surgery for spine, neurosurgery, pain management, ophthalmology, gynecology and gastroenterology among other specialties. The center has provided services to the community for more than 10 years.

 

Northwest Spine and Laser Surgery Center in Wilsonville, Ore., includes ACDF, pain management procedures and minimally invasive spine surgery. The center includes five physicians who are board-certified.

 

Orthopaedic Surgery Center of La Jolla (Calif.) is the orthopedic ASC of Surgery One, a network of outpatient surgery centers in the San Diego area. The ASC hosts spine surgeons, orthopedic surgeons and pain management physicians. Both cervical and lumbar spinal procedures are performed there. The surgery center is accredited by AAAHC.

 

Orthopedic Surgery Center of Orange County in Newport Beach, Calif., includes lumbar discectomy, single-level lumbar fusion and anterior cervical fusion. Spine patients are able to spend the night to recover at the center, which includes two registered nurses for one to three patients overnight.

 

Parkway Neuroscience & Spine Institute in Hagerstown, Md., is a one operating room, one procedure room ambulatory surgery center including four neurosurgeons, one neurologist and seven physiatrists. The center also has physical therapists and chiropractors, and is affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Partners.

 

Physicians Surgery Center of Fredrick (Md.) is a multispecialty ambulatory surgery center affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Partners. The 5,800-square-foot facility includes two operating rooms and one procedure room.

 

Prairie SurgiCare in Peoria, Ill., was founded by Richard Kube, MD, and offers outpatient spine and pain procedures. Dr. Kube is focused on motion preservation and has given more than 20 international presentations on his craft. The center and practice is focused on multidisciplinary spine care.

 

Southeastern Spine Institute & Ambulatory Surgery Center in Mount Pleasant, S.C., was co-founded by Donald R. Johnson, MD, and Steven C. Poletti, MD, as a site for comprehensive spine care. The center includes 18 physicians and physician assistants. Both founders participated in the first microendoscopic discectomy and artificial disc replacement in South Carolina.

 

Spine Centers of America, based in Fair Lawn, N.J., was founded by Bryan J. Massoud, MD, who operates three surgical centers with a team of endoscopic spine surgeons. The fellowship-trained surgeons have performed thousands of endoscopic surgeries and the center includes a variety of lumbar and surgical procedures.

 

The Spine Institute in Loveland, Colo., was founded by Kenneth Pettine, MD, and E. Jeffrey Donner, MD. The facility includes three operating rooms and a convalescence center. Surgeons perform disc replacements, stem cell injections and other minimally invasive procedures at the center, which also serves as a site for numerous clinical trials.

 

The Spine Institute of Southern New Jersey in Marlton was founded by Joan F. O'Shea, MD, who is a dually-trained neurosurgeon and spine surgeon. Procedures at the center include cervical disc replacement, ACDF, minimally invasive spinal fusion and lumbar procedures.

 

Spine Surgery Center of Eugene (Ore.) was established in 2007 by KeiperSpine founder Glenn L. Keiper Jr., MD, to accommodate spine patients. The center has AAAHC accreditation and three physicians perform procedures there. Dr. Keiper has a special interest in motion preservation and artificial disc replacement.

 

Squaw Peak Surgical Facility in Phoenix was founded by Anthony Yeung, MD, developer of the FDA-approved Yeung Endoscopic Spine System.  The center opened in 1998 and includes two operating rooms. The center is also home to FDA clinical trials and therapeutic injections.

 

St. Louis Spine Surgery Center is a 6,700-square-foot facility that includes outpatient minimally invasive spine surgery, neurosurgery and pain management. The center opened in late 2007 and Meridian Surgical Partners became an acquisition partner in February 2012.

 

Surgery Center at Tanasbourne in Hillsboro, Ore., is a freestanding multispecialty surgical facility. The ASC is a joint venture with Providence Health System and affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Center Partners. There are 21 physician owners of the center and an additional 48 physicians performing cases there.

 

Surgery Center of Reno (Nev.) is a multispecialty ASC that has a strong orthopedics and spine program. Spine surgeon James Lynch, MD, serves as chairman of the board of directors for the center. The center is affiliated with Regent Surgical Health.

 

Synergy Spine & Orthopedic Surgery Center in Warren, Mich., is affiliated with Mendelson Kornblum Orthopedic & Spine Specialists. The surgery center is fully licensed and accredited by AAAHC with a team that provides orthopedic, spine and pain procedures. There are 13 physicians associated with the group.

 

Trade Center Outpatient Surgery in Palmdale, Calif., was founded by Nick Alapour, MD, a surgeon focusing on spinal disorders. He has a professional interest in minimally invasive procedures and is one of the few spine-focused surgery centers in Southern California. Procedures at the center include disc nucleoplasty, anterior microscopic discectomy with fusion and lumbar laminectomy.

 

Two Rivers Surgical Center in Eugene, Ore., is a 7,911-square-foot facility designed specifically for outpatient spine procedures. The ASC opened in July 2006 and Meridian Surgical Partners became an acquisition partner in September 2008. The two-operating room ASC includes both neurosurgery and pain management and has an efficient workflow.

 

West Park Surgery Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., includes anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, laminectomy, microdiscectomy, carpal tunnel, ulnar nerve transposition and pain management procedures. The center is in association with the physicians from the Brain & NeuroSpine Clinic of Missouri and affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Partners.
