Dr. James Andrews performs surgery on New Orleans Saints' Mark Ingram — 3 things to know

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, James Andrews, MD, will be performing surgery on New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram today.

Here are three things to know:

1. The surgery is to repair a torn left rotator cuff.

2. An MRI after last week's loss to the Carolina Panthers showed more extensive damage to Mr. Ingram than was previously known about. He suffered a sprained shoulder against Washington in Week 10, but made things worse while carrying 12 times for 56 yards against the Panthers.

3. While Mr. Ingram's absence will leave the Saints short-handed, it should give him plenty of recovery time to be back and ready for next season.
