Rutgers coach grieves loss of Dr. Timothy Hosea — 6 things to know

Rutgers football coach Kyle Flood mourned the loss of Timothy Hosea, MD, the team's orthopedist, on Sunday, according to nj.com.

Here are six things to know:

 

1. Dr. Hosea was the chair of the Sports Medicine Commission for the United States Rowing Association as well as chair of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Sports Medicine Advisory Committee.

 

2. He had served as the team's orthopedist for more than 30 years.

 

3. Dr. Hosea served as the U.S. Olympic team physician for the rowing, canoe/kayak and cycling teams at the XXVIIth Olympiad in Sydney, Australia as well as the U.S. Olympic team physician for the rowing and athletic teams at the XXX Olympiad in London.

 

4. He was elected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Doctors in America and was awarded the Patients' Choice Award from American Registry.

 

5. Dr. Hosea earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College in Ohio and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Program in Massachusetts. He went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Massachusetts.

 

6. He was a member of the U.S. Olympic Sports Medicine Society, Herodicus Society, American Orthopaedic Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
