Christopher Ahmad, MD, will surgically remove debris from New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez's left acromioclavicular joint, MLB.com reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Mr. Sanchez will undergo the procedure on his non-throwing shoulder in early November.

2. The team expects Mr. Sanchez will be ready for the 2018 season after three months of recovery

3. Mr. Sanchez has had ongoing shoulder problems since the end of the 2017 season. He received several injections to manage the pain during the 2018 season, but his performance notably declined.

4. The team planned to continue the conservative treatment plan throughout the offseason, but Mr. Sanchez experienced discomfort during offseason conditioning.

5. Dr. Ahmad is an orthopedic surgeon at New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He is the head team physician for the Yankees and New York City Football Club.
