Freddie Fu, MD, an orthopedic sports medicine physician with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, was recently awarded the Sports Leadership Award from the 76th Dapper Dan Dinner & Sports Auction, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.
Dr. Fu helped found the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine and chairs the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center School of Medicine and UMPC. According to the report, Dr. Fu has also developed new techniques to treat sports injuries and conducted influential research in the field.
During his career, Dr. Fu has served as president of the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society and served as medical director for the City of Pittsburgh Marathon.
