Abbott Northwestern Hospital's Neurosurgical Patient Monitoring Program Receives Accreditation

Spine

Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis announced it has recently received accreditation from the Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Laboratory Accreditation Board of ABRET for a program to monitor neurosurgical patients.

The program includes intraoperative monitoring of patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures. Needle electrodes are placed just under the skin of neurosurgical patients before surgery. During the surgery, a technologist and physician monitor the nervous system of the patient and let the surgeon know if any of the readings change.

The goal of the program is to protect motor and sensory pathways. It is one of 17 accredited programs in the U.S. and the only one in Minnesota.
