Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. James Yue of Yale Spine Center

James Yue, MD, is co-director of the Yale Spine Center in New Haven, Conn., and director of the Center for Motion Preserving Spine Surgery & Studies. He was the first surgeon in New England to implant the ProDisc implant in 2002 and has published several articles based on his research into artificial discs. Dr. Yue has a special interest in treating patients with a variety of pathology, including scoliosis, arthritis and tumors. He performs the X-Stop treatment, among many other procedures. Dr. Yue is also devoted to educating a new generation of spine surgeons in his position as director of the Yale Spine Fellowship.

"I have been fortunate to have met and worked with spinal surgeons, fellows and residents across the globe," says Dr. Yue. "My relationships and didactic learning with these clinicians and scientists, and the subsequent interactive didactic learning and development of spinal surgical procedures and devices which have been used to restore the functional capacity of patients have been the most fulfilling aspect of my career."

Dr. Yue earned his medical degree at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland. His additional training includes a spine surgery fellowship at the RA Cowley Shock Trauma Hospital and Queen's Medical Center.
