X-BOLT examines 1,000th patient in hip implant study: 5 things to know

Spinal Tech

The 1,000th patient completed one-year of follow-up in X-Bolt Orthopaedics' World Hip Trauma Evaluation 4 study.

Five things to know:

1. Patients in the study either received the X-BOLT hip fracture fixation device or a gold standard sliding hip screw device. The implant is designed to reduce reoperation rates.

2. X-Bolt Orthopaedics began recruiting patients for the study in June 2016. The company collaborated with 10 centers that were working with the Orthopaedic Trauma Society.

3. Follow-ups to evaluate the patients were conducted at four months and one-year postoperatively.

4. A previous study found zero patients who received the X-BOLT required revision operations while 6 percent of the standard-group patients required reoperations.

5. Results of the current study are expected to be released in June. The company earned FDA clearance in the U.S. for the X-BOLT in the fourth quarter of 2018.
