Materialise launches shoulder system solution in collaboration with DePuy Synthes: 3 insights

Spinal Tech

Materialise launched the Trumatch Personalized Solutions Shoulder System in collaboration with DePuy Synthes at the 2018 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in New Orleans.

Here are three things to know.

1. The system is designed for use in planning shoulder arthroplasty surgery, specifically reverse shoulder and anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty procedures. It offers orthopedic surgeons an online planning platform as well as the ability to order patient-specific 3-D-printed surgical guides.

2. Precise implant alignment in RSA and TSA operations is necessary because of limited bone stock and the impact on overall screw length and fixation for RSA and peg perforation occurrence for TSA.

3. With 3-D virtual pre-surgical planning, implant positioning is done within a stable reference frame linked to the entire scapula, using reliable landmarks not subject to case specific wear patterns. This is intended to improve overall fixation by allowing the surgeon to be more precise in aligning the implant and screw positioning.
